Modified Bajaj Avenger 200 ~ Ornithopter Moto Design

As the custom bike scene in India is going high, builders try to make something that’s going to turn people’s heads. There’s genre-defying builds which teaches us motorcycle history and then there are some unusual mods which you have probably never thought of! And its indeed very pleasing to share a story from a builder who’s completely new and do something eminent.. workshop like Ornithopter Moto Design who has restored this amazing supercool chopper using a Bajaj Avenger 200! Ornithopter Moto Design is a motorcycle design studio based in Nasik, which is founded by team of four friends, Amol Khond, Aniket Kathe, Akshay Chaudhari and Pritish Ganore; all from mechanical engineering background.

“We have completed our mechanical engg from same college namely MET,BKC,Nasik. The idea for starting up motorcycle design studio came up when our team member Mr.Amol khond who always was a passionate about designing bikes and cars failed to get admission in IITB, IDC for transportation design M.des degree though he had got admission in MIT school of design,Pune it didn’t go for it. In order to do something we all love we decide to start up motorcycle design studio. Our designer Amol was good at sketching and modeling cars and bikes, he already had crafted some bike and cars miniatures in clay, soap, thermocol, paper ,copper wires etc.So we decided to built our first bike on Bajaj AVENGER 200. We bought an old avenger for 40000 rupees.

We sketched down some forms on paper and started working on 1:1 clay model. Within 3 Months we had completed our prototype. Then the tank was crafted in-house using sheet metal. The look of bike is very unique, the headlamp and the scoop having parking lamps give beast type look from front. We have also crafted radiator scoops which are also very different. The tail lamp adds beauty to the beast. The side panels and other parts were crafted in FRP and very few changes were made in rear side of chaisis. The seat is also crafted in house. Our logo design is inspired by Ornithopter- a flying machine invented by Da Vinci the famous artist of all time. So we derive our name and logo from ancient flying machine. The mechanical wing in logo represents engineering and bird’s wing represents art, we have tried to combine art and engineering in our bike. All our parts are handcrafted and made in house. We don’t want to limit ourselves to custom bike, in future we would look forward to setup motorcycle prototyping studio. This bike is combined effort of our team, Hope you have liked our first project.”
